Science

At Kenningtons Primary Academy, our aim is to deliver quality primary science education that provides children with the foundations for understanding the world around them through the individual disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.

Children are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science, using objectives set out in the National Curriculum. By developing a foundation of key knowledge and concepts, our children are encouraged to realise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity. They are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes.

Science provides numerous opportunities for cross-curricular learning. Children are given opportunities to apply their mathematical knowledge to their understanding of science. Opportunities to develop reading and writing skills are an integral part of our science teaching and learning. Equally, opportunities are given to use science in other subjects to create a deeper understanding.

To ensure the coverage and development of age-related skills, the science curriculum is taught in a whole afternoon block, allowing sufficient time to fully engage and explore.

We are proud to have achieved the Silver Primary Science Quality Mark: An award scheme that develops and celebrates the quality of science teaching and learning in primary schools.
